Our group is run by a diverse group of volunteers:  leaders, trainee leaders, young leaders, regular helpers, occasional helpers  and committee members.

However, we still need more help at Beavers, Cubs and Scouts and with admin and would be pleased to hear from you. There are many roles to choose from and our aim is to find something right for you and then help you have fun too; scouting isn’t just for the kids!

Becoming a leader

Being a leader is fun and rewarding.  You get to do everything the scouts do (if you want to!) and get to join our current team of leaders and assistants in the group delivering activities for the beavers, cubs and scouts.  If you can commit to one evening / 3-4 hours per week that would be excellent!

At the start of each term you will meet up with your section leader to plan activities and decide who will be doing what.  Then from week to week you will be assisting with sessions (approx. 12 per term) and gradually planning and running your own sessions with others helping you.

There will be occasional weekend activities such as camps, hikes, sports and parades – but you don’t have to attend them all.
When you start there will be a few things to do – DBS check, a couple of short welcome meetings with the appointments people and your training advisor, and a few training modules to complete. When these are done you can be invested and wear a uniform.

After that you will receive occasional on-going training which will help you in your role and you will get to meet other leaders at the same stage as you.
